Work Based Learning

P-TECH Work Based Learning Program

The Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School (Clean Tech ECHS) Work Based Learning Program  is designed to prepare students for the daily tasks, requirements and professional skills needed to succeed in the workforce. Through a job shadow of a minimum of 35 hours, students will have the opportunity to work on specific tasks and work assignments and gain valuable work experience in a professional environment. Students may have the opportunity to work in teams, rotate through a number of departments and job functions, or independently execute a project identified by the supervisor.

Work Assignments: Students will contribute to a real, meaningful project that is aligned with his/her skill set. Work assignments will vary from site to site based on employer needs. Our program coordinator can work with companies on identifying work assignments and tasks.

Examples of Work Assignments:

  • Coding and website re-design
  • Testing new applications/products/software
  • Team consulting projects
  • Client research and competitive analysis
  • Designing and administering client surveys
  • Assisting with a marketing campaign
  • Conducting energy audits

Employer Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Set schedule and expectations
  • Provide work assignments and monitor progress
  • Complete a simple and short feedback sheet about the student’s professional skills at the conclusion of the field experience

Placement Process: The field experience placement process is a collaboration between students, companies and field experience coordinators.

  • If you are interested in hosting a Clean Tech ECHS student for a job shadow, please complete the business response form.  The time commitment is typically up to 1 hour between the hours of 8AM and 11AM.

  • The Program Coordinator will facilitate interviews at TEC-SMART or by Zoom. Students are matched with companies for interviews in advance, depending on their area of study, interest and the skills required to complete tasks.

  • Following the interviews, the Coordinator will work with potential companies to match students appropriately.
