Welcome Back! Back to School Information

The first day of HVCC college classes is on Tuesday, September 2nd.  Students should check their HVCC WIReD accounts for their class schedule to see if they need to attend on that day.  Not all college majors will have class on Tuesday.  The following 11th grade students are NOT scheduled for classes on Tuesday:  Hacking & Cybersecurity and Surgical Tech.  ALL 12TH GRADE STUDENTS HAVE HVCC CLASSES ON TUESDAY. Students will also find the room number for their college classes on their HVCC WIReD account.  There are classes in both the STEM Education Center (STEMEC) and TEC-SMART.  Ms. Blair, the Operations Manager for HVCC, will be in the TECSMART building as will Dexter, our security officer, to help students if they need it.  If they are unable to transport themselves or their school is not transporting them, they will need to email their HVCC professor, from their HVCC email making them aware of the absence due to no transportation.  The schedule for high school and college classes was posted in Canvas under Announcements for each student. Not all students in a pathway are taking the same coursework due to required prerequisites, so it is very important that students check their WIReD accounts.

Our first day of high school classes will be Thursday, September 4th.  As always, please email ECHS Program Coordinator, Adrienne Snow, asnow@bscsd.org, with any questions or concerns.

  • Program Hours:  Students should arrive at TEC-SMART by 7:40 AM.  Dismissal from high school class is 10:40 AM.  Students CANNOT leave the building until 10:50 AM.
  • Transportation:  All schools transport, but you will want to reach out to your individual school to find out what time the bus is picking your child up and from where.
  • Driving:  Students, with a valid driver’s license, can drive to TEC-SMART and park in the student lot.  They will obtain a permission form from Mrs. Snow the first week of school and it will be due the following week.  They can drive the first week without a permit. Students will park in the labeled student lot across from the building along the woods.   Students CANNOT transport other students from TECSMART back to their home school at dismissal, but they can drive others in at the start of the day.
  • Schedule:  Students are assigned to both HVCC and high school by college pathway.  When students are not in attendance in college classes, they are attending their high school classes, all taught in a transdisciplinary cotaught format.  Classes will ALWAYS be held during our program hours. If a college class is dismissed early or canceled, students need to report to the high school classroom.
  • Textbooks:  Students will receive their textbooks for their HVCC classes on Thursday, September 4th.  Mrs. Snow will distribute them by pathway.
  • School Supplies:  Students will need their home school or program chromebook/laptop each day.  We function in an online classroom.  It is our recommendation that students bring the following with them each day.  If a student is unable to get these supplies, we can provide them.  Pen, pencil, highlighter, folder, notebook.  These supplies will typically be for their HVCC classes.
  • Lunch:  Students will have many breaks throughout the morning to eat.  Students should also have time to eat lunch prior to getting on their bus to their home school if they will miss lunch at their home school.  If your child is NOT finding time to eat lunch, please contact Mrs. Snow immediately.  It’s very important to us that they have time to eat.  Students will be released at 10:40 AM to eat.  Most students will NOT have a lunch built into their home school schedule due to travel time and afternoon classes.
  • Meet the Teacher Night:  We will have a Meet the Teacher Night/ Open House on September 10th from 6-7 PM at TECSMART.  We will begin in the auditorium for program wide information and will then have you meet with the teachers to review the upcoming school year.
  • The school calendar for P-TECH was emailed to parents/guardians and sent to students as part of a Canvas Announcement.  Mrs. Snow will send weekly emails during the school year that will also reflect any changes to this calendar.  This calendar is for both our juniors and seniors, so you may see additional information on it that won’t pertain to your child this year.
  • Attendance:  College professors are very strict regarding attendance.  Please schedule medical appointments and college visits around HVCC classes.  If a student is going to miss HVCC classes, they should email their HVCC professor using their HVCC email account prior to the missed class.  Students should always submit their work ahead of time if they have a planned absence.  For high school, attendance notes can be submitted via email to asnow@bscsd.org. There are college classes over both the February and April high school vacations.
  • Cell Phones:  As you are aware, all districts have updated their cell phone policies to comply with the NYS mandate.  Please see the handbook for the detailed cell phone policy and procedure while at HVCC TECSMART/North campus that was emailed to families and posted in Canvas as an announcement.  Cell phones are permitted when logging into HVCC sites at the start of the morning since students need to use the duo security authentication.  There will be cell phone lockers in each of the classrooms that give the students the ability to charge them throughout the morning.  Each student will be assigned a locker and given a key.  After signing into their HVCC accounts, students will put their electronic devices into the locker and lock it.  They will unlock it at 10:40 each day to take it back with them to school.  The cell phones will remain in the lockers in the classroom.

Please reach out to ECHS Program Coordinator, Adrienne Snow, asnow@bscsd.org, with any questions.
