P-TECH Provides Real World Experiences

Juniors in the Early College High School program learned from experts in the field this week as they continue their work in their Energy Audit unit.  Students went on a tour of the New York Independent System Operator, the organization that maintains the NYS power grid.  Peter Hoffman, Senior Analyst for National Grid, joined juniors as a guest speaker this week to speak to them about home energy use.

On Wednesday, January 15th, seniors presented their MEMs/Cantilever Video Pitch to eleven industry partners that included Directors of Marketing for different organizations, engineers and the Director of Quality Control for GLOBALFOUNDRIES, the owner of Prolific Marketing, and the President of Dunn Strategy Group.  Students had five minutes to present their idea in a “Shark Tank” format and five minutes for real world feedback.  It was a great opportunity for our students to gain feedback from those in the field to improve their projects.

The Clean Technologies & Sustainable Industries Early College High School focuses on transdisciplinary learning allowing students the freedom to explore ideas, identify real world problems, and create innovative solutions.  For more information on the Early College High School, please contact ECHS Program Coordinator, Adrienne Snow, asnow@bscsd.org
