11th & 12th Grade Start of School Information
Classes start for HVCC on Tuesday, September 5th. The following groups of students need to report to TEC-SMART for in person college classes on Tuesday; Clean Energy 11th and 12th graders, Engineering Sciences 11th grade, Engineering Science 12th grade in MATH 180 Entrepreneurship 11th grade, Entrepreneurship 12th grade report at 9:45 AM, Hacking & Cybersecurity 12th grade, and Surgical Tech grade 12 report at 9:45 AM. Students will also find the room number for their college classes on their HVCC WIReD account. There are classes in both the STEM Education Center (STEMEC) and TEC-SMART. Ms. Blair, the Operations Manager for HVCC, will be in the TECSMART building as will Dexter, our security officer, to help students if they need it. If they are unable to transport themselves or their school is not transporting them, they will need to email their HVCC professor, from their HVCC email making them aware of the absence due to no transportation.
Students who did not submit a Certificate of Residency are not registered for HVCC classes and cannot be registered until one is received. The absolute last day deadline for HVCC is Tuesday, September 3rd.
The first day of high school classes will be Thursday, September 5th.
- Program Hours: Students should arrive at TEC-SMART by 7:40 AM. Dismissal is at 10:50 AM.
- Transportation: All schools transport, but you will want to reach out to your individual school to find out what time the bus is picking your child up and from where.
- Driving: Students, with a valid driver’s license, can drive to TEC-SMART and park in the student lot. They will obtain a permission form from me the first week of school and it will be due the following week. They can drive the first week without a permit. Students will park in the labeled student lot across from the building along the woods. Students CANNOT transport other students from TECSMART back to their home school at dismissal, but they can drive others in at the start of the day.
- Schedule: Students are assigned to both HVCC and high school by college pathway. When students are not in attendance in college classes, they are attending their high school classes, all taught in a transdisciplinary cotaught format. Classes will ALWAYS be held during our program hours.
- Textbooks: Students will receive their textbooks for their HVCC classes on Thursday, September 5th. I will distribute them by pathway.
- School Supplies: Students will need their home school or program chromebook/laptop each day. We function in an online classroom. It is our recommendation that students bring the following with them each day. If a student is unable to get these supplies, we can provide them. Pen, pencil, highlighter, folder, notebook. These supplies will typically be for their HVCC classes.
- Lunch: Students will have many breaks throughout the morning to eat. Students should also have time to eat lunch prior to getting on their bus to their home school if they will miss lunch at their home school. If your child is NOT finding time to eat lunch, please contact me immediately. It’s very important to us that they have time to eat.
- Meet the Teacher Night: We will have a Meet the Teacher Night/ Open House on September 12th from 6-7 PM at TECSMART. We will begin in the auditorium for program wide information and will then have you meet with the teachers to review the upcoming school year.
- There are no high school classes on November 1st due to a Superintendent's Conference Day. Students who have college classes will still report.
- Attendance: College professors are very strict regarding attendance. Please schedule medical appointments and college visits around HVCC classes. If a student is going to miss HVCC classes, they should email their HVCC professor using their HVCC email account prior to the missed class. Students should always submit their work ahead of time if they have a planned absence. For high school, attendance notes can be submitted via email to asnow@bscsd.org.
- Cell Phones: Students should have their cell phones away during program hours. Cell phones are permitted when logging into HVCC sites since they need to use the duo security authentication. Please let me know if your child needs their phone due to medical reasons (ex. Some use their phone to track levels related to diabetes)
